August Crew Sweat for Your Cash

These past few weeks have seen the August crew raise over an astonishing £600 on their Kickstarter page. However, to put on a play of this magnitude requires a lot more money.

You may have seen us in the Forum selling cakes, or outside of the Lemmy Saturday night availing your post-Lemmy munchies, however the crew have even more exciting fundraising projects up their sleeve. Here are two incredible challenges which deserve your attention:

1. The August Cast Tackle Dartmoor

Next Saturday (the 30th November) our cast, with their wonderful directors, will be headtrekking 35 miles across Dartmoor National Park starting at Okehampton and ending at Ivybridge. However, this is not a leisurely walk across the southern Devon countryside, IT’S A RACE!!

Our incredible cast have been split into two teams under the command of their directors.

So  let’s meet the teams:

TEAM JAMIE                                         TEAM  LUCY
Jamie Manton                                           Lucy Hirst
Bryony Skinn                                            Luca Owenbridge
Philippe Edwards                                     Darren Siah
Kitty Wright                                              Hannah Aldridge
Lizzie Ryan                                                Katherine Stevens
Ciaran Elmes                                             Jordan Edgington
Hannah Lawrence                                    Miranda Stewart
Ryan Whittle

Which team will have your support?

Good luck to both teams and we will have an update next week after their adventures on the moors! Please donate and support this cause on our Kickstarter page:

The losing team will face a forfeit to be chosen by you and completed at the August Christmas Party on Monday 9th December- stay tuned for details!

2. Jordan Edgington aka Charles Aiken  : Tulsa to Pawhuska

Our very own Jordan Edgington is completing a huge challenge all in aid of EUTCo’s production!

Jordan’s character, Uncle Charlie, travels 56 miles in the play to see his family. Therefore, Jordan will be swimming, rowing, cycling and running the accumulative distance of 56 miles over the course of 5 days. I think that deserves a round of applause!!

Here is his five day plan:

Day 1 – 4 mile swim
Day 2 – 4 mile swim
Day 3 – 14 mile row
Day 4 – 24 mile cycle (Exeter to Exmouth and back)
Day 5 – 10 mile run

This challenge, thought up by Jordan himself, shows the dedication and passion of the whole cast for this production. It would be amazing if you could give whatever you have to show your support and admiration for Jordan’s commitment.

See the event page here:

and support him via our Kickstarter page:

It’ll be a tough week ahead for the August crew, but it will all be worthwhile with your generous donations!

Hollywood Follows Suit

Coincidentally, after choosing to put on a production of August: Osage County in the Northcott, it was announced that Hollywood had followed suit (we’re definitely claiming credit for that). The film is set to be released in the UK just after Christmas and has a stellar cast including Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor, Abigail Breslin and Benedict Cumberbatch. Watch the trailer above and tweet us your thoughts.

It’s already been tipped for Oscar nominations in 2014. A recent Guardian article predicts it could see nominations across the acting and screenplay categories. In fact the awards are already rolling in. In the first awards ceremony of the season, The Hollywood Film Awards, Julia Roberts received the award for best supporting actress as Barbara Fordham and the whole August cast received the “Hollywood Ensemble Acting Award”. Their acceptance speeches show how humbled they feel to be part of a work by Tracy Letts.

The critics have deemed the film a success so far, but a major part of that is down to the quality of Letts’ original play. Everyone involved in August is excited to bring that original play to life, so don’t miss out on what is set to be an ambitious, darkly funny production. We might invite Meryl and Julia down for opening night, you definitely wouldn’t want to miss that!
